We go from the instinctual warrior to the suave messenger.
The messenger man moves like silk. His skillset is communication and he always knows just what to say. I’d argue the root of his charm is flattery. Like any form of personal power his gift of gab can be used to uplift or deceive. And it’s likely you’ve had an experience with a messenger that’s given you a taste of both.
In his skillful applications, he’s a great hype man, powerful ally and acts as a reminder to enjoy life. The messenger will call every woman “baby” or “beautiful” no matter what they look like. He’s a great read and can advocate for you in any social conflict. You sense this is a man who wants to have a good time and will make sure you’re included in the fun.
Ayshea K Faines describes the Messenger as “dandyish” which I love. There is an ever slight androgyny that makes him very attractive. You get the sense he’s well groomed, cares for his appearance and doesn’t take things too seriously.
This polarity creates a balanced demeanor of being respected by men and loved by women.
It bears repeating that communication is his strong suit. However, be cautious. This is a man whose word isn’t necessarily his bond… he has a way of making something look shinier than it is. The messenger can sell sand in the desert or ice to an eskimo (adaptability is yet another strength). As you move forward it’s important you feel he’s someone you can trust.
In romance I’d suspect almost every woman has danced with a messenger. There’s a strong archetypal reason for this. Hermes is the messenger God and escorted Persephone to the underworld.
Symbolically he acts as a catalyst for expansion (transversing between worlds). Since he is comfortable visiting Heaven, Earth and Hell aka “the good, the bad and the ugly” he comes across as a man who is non-judge mental. He has a deep recognition that there are two sides to every coin and we can flip them as we choose.
The messenger won’t be the man to tell you what’s “right” or “wrong”. He prioritizes the experience of life which is a blend of both. And in all honesty this archetype operates mostly in the grey space.
Hermes accompanies Persephone on her journey from naiveté to a “darker” reality, by guiding her from her mother to Hades.
Every woman has the maiden journey of going from the doe eyed girl to the woman who gets the reality check. It’s a rite of passage that facilitates maturity and integration. Since this story line is universal I believe the messenger has made an appearance in every woman’s story as a guide to a deeper knowing or new reality.
It’s likely he’s facilitated growth for women in terms of sensuality, womanhood, sexual expression and even attachment.
In myth Hermes has wings on his feet, in life the messenger doesn’t like being grounded in one thing for too long. This includes romance… More times than not he’s a lesson for women that not every relationship is meant to last. Even if he appeared at a pivotal time.
However, there are two archetypes you’ll find him settling down with. They’re sharp enough to keep him on his toes, accept his nature and represent what he needs.
When balanced or mature he makes a great husband and father with his care free spirit and inner child that loves curiosity and adventure. He’ll always seek new experiences and makes a wonderfully dynamic partner.
As far as his emotional blueprint goes, attachment is his growth edge. He loves options and this is a man who needs to feel free.
It’s important for women to keep in mind his comfort zone is the space in between. (Think hermes being the mediator between the gods and mortals). Whether it’s travel, creative pursuits, new ideas or women, anchoring into one path or direction can feel suffocating.
Stability is possible with the Messenger, but he needs to feel he’s making the decision and he’s not closed off to the world. It’s not that commitment is out of the question, but if anyone understands that desire needs space to breathe it’s the messenger.
It takes a conscientious and self-sufficient woman to understand how to best partner with this energy signature. And to be honest most women aren’t able to which is partly why he has such the romantic variety.
I’ve noticed Messengers do have a difficult time when someone has unattached from them. It’s fine when the decision is theirs but a tough pill to swallow when they get a dose of their own medicine.
Abandonment is hard for anyone, but this can bring chaos to a mind that’s usually sharp. If his thoughts aren’t organized his life will see a decline. Learning to stabilize his reality and not get ahead of himself with his ideas will bring him the recovery he needs.
I will say, even though it may seem flakey (which it is at times) there is a strength to operating fluidly in life.
The irony is, the Messenger feels most in control when things are in the air.
And that’s a spiritual reckoning all of us are looking to master.
