Next up, the creative genius.
The creative genius is recognized among us all but rarely receives our praise.
He’s often sincere in what he does and who he is but is more memorable for his social faux pas. This can make him endearing to some or insufferable to others.
This archetype is going to be known for what he does or where his interest lies.
If he’s into computers, he’s the tech guy. If he studies quantum physics, he’s the science guy. If he draws anime, he’s the art guy.
His career is almost always his life’s work.
He becomes consumed with his interest and remains far ahead of his peers. His time, money, energy and emotions are all channeled into one domain of his life. This devotion is often reflected back to him as the black sheep complex.
Typically this level of commitment is something most see as admirable. However the lack of balance and weak social skills makes him less respectable and appear more unusual. Relatability becomes a challenge.
If he veers off his path of excellence he can become a true outcast. Socially incompetnet without contributing to society is a dangerous combination.
Since he doesn’t embody the traditional masculine essence, his criticism will be more severe. Lacking this embodiment AND a societal contribution, is a metaphorical death sentence.
As a society we place more value on traditional ideals (even though there’s a lot of criticism around it). Nonetheless, the conventional masculine archetypes receive more praise, funding, respect and social capital. (As a refresher, they are the warrior, messenger, business man and king).
The creative genius knows he must leverage a different skill set. His mind is usually what gets the job done. But he may use humor, accomplishments or emotional intelligence as his leg up professionally or romantically.
For this archetype it’s important for his social standing and sanity to pursue his craft and show up every day in that purpose. To fall off the wagon professionally is a detriment he can’t afford to take like the other archetypes.
But for those who stay the course, I don’t think we give enough credit for what he truly brings to the table.
He’s actually a visionary but we often sum him up to the weird guy who does math problems or graphic design.
His work isn’t only beyond his peers, his mind is light years ahead as well. So yes, he can pass tests quicker than his classmates. But he’s innovative and actually a quiet revolutionary.
So we often write him off and his true contribution due to his subdued demeanor or unconventional approach.
But it’s the quiet work ethic that surprises us all with the life changing invention, international award or even “getting the girl”….
If anyone has a worthy underdog story, it’s the creative genius.
