Who Can You Depend On?

Business Man Archetype

The Business Man is number 3 on our journey of the 8 Masculine Archetypes. With all the variation, I’d say the Business Man is the most stable.

Don’t let the word “business” fool you. He can be found in many places outside of an office. Business Men are focused on doing a job WELL, no matter the setting or context. His work can range from formal establishments to blue collar to farming or even coaching little league sports. Any man who works hard and is drawn to contributing to those around him is activating this blue print.

The cornerstone of this archetype is quality. He makes it a point to deliver what’s expected of him with integrity.

One of his strengths is catching a flow and maintaining balance. This doesn’t necessarily mean holistic (he might be heady and too literal). But he understands what it takes to have a system that produces results.

If the Business Man is connected to other archetypes he’ll embrace his emotions and spirituality without dismissing other responsibilities.

At the very least, he’s going to have an infrastructure that harmonizes his finances, work outs, family life and any other social networks he’s apart of.

If his systems and logic go too far he misses out on the romance of life. He’ll avoid the feminine range and sensitive or wild women because he perceives them as a roller coaster. The ebbs and flows of a woman’s nature are “unstable” from his perspective.

Remember balance is a hallmark of this blueprint. Passion and feelings naturally create highs and lows. As a response to these shifts he’ll likely shut down, withdraw or avoid it altogether. His romantic relationships will reflect how steady he is (Sage) OR challenge his spontaneity and adventure (Huntress).

He is a stand up guy. When you’re not getting his best side it’s likely someone took advantage of his dependability. As a result, he can be scornful and ruthless in his revenge.

This backlash can also appear when rejected by women. He’s usually honest and hard working, so if there’s nothing to show for his dedication (even as innocent as a woman not being interested) that can be infuriating. This isn’t impulsive like the warrior, but usually a pot that’s been boiling.

Honestly, a good ol country man comes to mind with this archetype. He’s solid, a good man and lives a simple life.

Yes, the business man can mind his business and do what needs to be done. But that’s not his only expression. He can reach great heights in his chosen pursuit.

A great example under this category is Denzel Washington (even though many of his roles are the Warrior).

And as an aside, I feel that Michael B Jordan mirrors Denzel in this way.

Washington reached the pinnacle of his craft, but not for media, approval or fame. Simply doing what he does to the best of his ability. He has the masses respect and steered clear of the gossip and scandal and was quite humble considering all the infatuation women still have to this day. These principals of the Business Man is what catapulted his success.

We have this expression to thank for society that runs on wheels, relationships with longevity and even catching the flow of life with ease. He reminds us what’s possible when we stay focused, honest and truly apply ourselves. And usually “all in a day’s work”.
