We’ve made it to the sixth archetype. The cool, unapologetic, devil-may-care huntress. Quite the turn from the mystic in terms of disposition but both embody the same theme: a woman who is not taking your opinion to heart nor thinks it’s relevant at all.
In fact if your ideas suppress, oppress or regress she’s going to have something to say about it. And don’t expect it to be a soft landing.
The huntress is cool because of her sovereign nature. This is a woman who’s focus is on personal fulfillment. Keyword personal. She is goal-oriented and action-oriented. The huntress is the mover and the shaker of her time, industry or family history.
As her name suggests she is the hunter. Preservation of self is above all else. She defies expectations set by the status quo and might flirt with questionable ethics. Protecting and defending her pursuits is both satisfying and liberating. Her intensity also expands to other women and the less vulnerable. She is the protector of girlhood and can be identified as an advocate, mentor, reporter, or organizing grass root movements.
This archetype is brazen, bold and controversial. She represents the psyche of the hunter who is a provider and destroyer. An embodiment we associate with men. But if her role comes into question, she will clarify who she is not who you’d like her to be. Huntress women are not the ones who go along to get along.
(A visual summary of the huntress and other archetypes can be found on my instagram stories and highlight reel)
The above grid shows the range a huntress can embody. Some animations:
Athletic: her competitive spirit is the raw primal instinct the huntress represents (Serena Williams).
Unbridled Sexuality: she has owned the desires of her sexual appetite and is at home in her body. Her physique is NOT a token of worth, a bargaining chip or mannequin for feminine expectations. She is unapologetic in her embodiment (Cher).
Avant Garde: completely bizarre at times. She can deliver a shock value simply to shake up the status quo. The huntress is the one who rewrites the rules and defies expectations (Grace Jones).
Earthy Coquette: a woman with an independent spirit who is unconcerned with the perception of others. She is autonomous and selects a life and partner(s) of her own choosing (Bianca Jagger).
Here are the points of discussion in the video below:
Characteristics: Down-to-earth and confident. Potentially athletic and connected to nature. There is a care-free spirit. She is spontaneous and adventurous while still being determined with great focus.
Skillful Applications: A woman of great audacity. She is unapologetic in her thoughts. The rebel maiden may rebel against social expectations and pressure. But it’s the huntress who deconstructs the institutions and players to rebuild anew.
Unskillful Applications: She can be combative and use anger in unproductive ways. Her rage is what inspires change and animates the destructress, but with out purpose, vision or uplifting herself and others nothing can be born from it.
Myth: Artemis the Greek goddess of the moon. She ran the wild with her pack of dogs shooting arrows and relentlessly savage in her kills. The only goddess who was not raped or deceived into sex in the Greek pantheon. She never had children but was actually the mid-wife for her twin brother Apollo and recognized as the protective maternal figure.
Here we deepen the conversation in the paid video:
Expand the discussion on myth with the goddesses Oya and Kali Ma.
Review the themes of sacrifice in modern times: the irony of sacrificing ourselves before the feelings of another.
Morality - up for interpretation. Evolving personal ethics and how the huntress operates in savage justice. Extremity with a purpose.
Social contention I see placed on women and African American men to be more passive.
How the huntress captivates men with her unique appeal.
