Nurturing is the instinct of a mother, the tending to life and the comfort of a woman’s essence.
Nurturing encourages growth and expands what is already there. In it’s healthy expression, it evolves in harmony with the natural rhythm of cycles and phases. In it’s unhealthy expression, it’s attention to a single phase will swell and retract future development.
In the words of Ayesha K Faines, Power is neutral. It’s the intention behind it which creates the shape.
Women have an immense amount of power in their ability to nurture. It’s the warmth of the sun that allows plants to grow in their own time. It’s also the scorching focus that seizes nutrients leading to demise.
I can’t speak as a mother from first person, but I do know enough to realize all mothers balance the shine of their nurturing warmth. The seed that was planted and grew needs the sun as a vital resource to develop and mature. It’s a matter of over-exposure from the sun when nurturing becomes a hindrance. Too much focus on the qualities and attributes that don’t bear fruit.
As women we address this in all realms, not only child-rearing. We can nurture ideas, potential, friendships, heart break, betrayal and toxicity. The power to grow and expand is the power to nurture. What we tend to is up to us.
Below I share a metaphor I heard on how nurturing can lead to one outcome vs. another. Short and sweet. Enjoy!
