Hello all!
It’s been quite some time and feels good to be back. Writing is one of my favorite mediums and I’m feeling at home. I want to take the time to say hello to my veteran subscribers and welcome my new ones.
For those of you who are new, my emails are… somewhat unconventional. A combination of personal reflection and cultural commentary. Visual story telling and organized arguments. I promote offers some of the time, but enjoy carrying a conversation most of the time.
There is much to discuss. And even though practical life has been dialed up and my creative outlets dialed down…
My mind never stops. I have lectures outlined. Controversies analyzed. 21 emails for you in my drafts. Journals color coordinated with ideas and content.
We have so much to talk about. Believe me. I’ve been itching to share. And the tides are turning for me to do so. As we get reacquainted in your inbox here are a few thoughts top of mind.
1. Every insult is an admission to an insecurity
Any time someone speaks they are giving you information. What I’ve discovered is what someone focuses on says more about them than it does about you.
When it comes to spewing negativity it’s usually a defense mechanism to balance the scales.
A perception that they are less or have less than you. Instead of rising to the occasion or offering a thoughtful critique, they balance the scales to cut you at the knees. Simply put, insults are a variation of an inferiority complex.
Nine out of ten times insults are a harbored insecurity. This could range from appearance, intellect, accomplishments, social power, influence, attention etc.
Food for thought for reading people and a little exercise in reverse psychology.
2. Logic isn’t enough in the age of information
The amount of facts, claims, studies, perspective, guidance, manuals, instructions we’re exposed to is…. insane.
On a fundamental level most of us check a few things for validity. Who owns it? Who funds it?
I’m making the claim it’s no longer sufficient to analyze and fact check.
Whether you call it intuition, gut instinct, 6th sense or psychic prowess it has to be included in how you filter what’s presented to you.
The bottom line is our 5 senses are being deceived and mislead at every opportunity. Between filters, AI, false accusations, scams, fake news, forged documents and emotional manipulation.
There’s two lenses to consider, the left brain and the right.
3. When life flashes before your eyes ~ Slow down
About two weeks ago I witnessed a tragic car wreck. I was the closest one to the scene and my instinct led me to assist the driver.
It was very hands on as I tried to help the driver out of his car. He was young, looked like my age or younger.
It was the most challenging experiences to date and I wanted to share one thing I gleaned.
When life and death appears suddenly there’s this narrative on how to live. Doing all the things, going to all the places, shooting for the stars and seizing the day.
I love the fire in those words but I actually had the opposite realization. I was told to slow it down. Sink deeper. You don’t get more from life by doing more things. You get more from life by being more engrossed moment to moment.
4. The Delivery of the message is more important than the message itself
This realization ties up the others nicely. In going through all my material I’ve realized there’s a curation that needs to be done. There’s this element in me that loves beauty and articulation so I want to do things intentionally.
But there’s also this invisible hand that I know is at play. That sees more of the players than I can perceive. The more in tune you become the more invisible doors you start to perceive.
This recent chapter has been Preparation & Curation. It’s like my love of discipline and artistry are intertwined.
How you say things, paint a picture, tell a story can have more of an impact than the message itself. It makes or breaks it. Take the time even if it’s a beat to consider the best packaging.
As a reminder I have quite the library here on substack. If you enjoy exploring the masculine and feminine archetypes you can find my posts here. Video blogs are categorized here. And if podcast style is your preference you can find me on spotify or start exploring here.
I appreciate your time and engagement! There’s always more. We’ll speak soon.
All the best,
Eleanor
