Continuing the conversation on what it means to be “pretty” along with the positive and negative effects (real and imagined).
In the last video I outline the premise of the “pretty curse”. I set the stage with telling my own coming of age story. I also share a metaphor I heard a woman use about “someone complaining about having one million dollars” aka “Pretty? What could be the problem?”
In Part 2 I discuss:
Conflating the “pretty curse” with failed relationships instead of serious danger
Stories where I’ve been socially cornered by men
My tactics on how I pivot out
What instances women withdraw from competition
To set the scene, I include personal anecdotes of working as a waitress, a fitness instructor, and a night out with friends. I conclude with outlining serious considerations for our society, along with the cure to this “curse”.
