I always say all of our questions can be answered by nature. So when we think of the natural world, there is one thing without a doubt: bio-diversity. In the genetic design there is the Rocky Mountains, Sahara Desert, Pacific Ocean and Tropical jungle. The bio-diversity is unfathomable and remarkable. This can also be said for the human genome.
Women also have unique attraction based on their genetics and predisposition. I’ve heard it described as flavors or temperatures, each individual with her own appeal.
There are people I know who adore flowers. And there are people I know who ask: What is the point of flowers anyway? The larger question here..
Is beauty superfluous or functional?
Now, I can think of a few practical functions for being a beautiful woman. The most obvious is attracting a mate. In addition, there’s no denying that she has access to more opportunities, social capital, and influence on those around her.
I believe one of the greatest functions of beauty is it inspires others to care for and tend to. If we think of elements in nature; neighborhoods who take pride in their home keep their grass green, feed the soil with nutrients, and water their flowers.
Men who see beautiful women go out of their way to be of service. This could range from opening the door, extending professional opportunities, or offering resources to relieve burdens.
The effect of beauty in the natural world and between the sexes is service.
Why….?
Because beauty signifies health.
And health requires care and attention.
Think about it. Brown grass is likely dehydrated, spots on leaves indicates disease, and wilted flowers suggest death. We tend to beautiful things in nature to keep it alive. We look after their health in the name of longevity.
For women; skin, hair, nails and a vital presence signifies fertility. These are beautiful attributes of women that are beautiful because they showcase her health.
(As well as her ability to produce life).
The beauty system has a revolving door of opinions from color to shape, to texture, to height. But once again, if we look to the natural world all these aspects vary greatly, and they’re all beautiful in their own right. It’s taking care of each one within their biodiversity that keeps them vital. The building blocks of food, water, sun and enriched environments are the same for women. It’s not the physical attributes in themselves, it’s the vitality within them that translate splendor.
Beauty inspires service to preserve life.
How has this become misconstrued?
Fear. I believe the fear is lack of control. Ayesha K Faines pointed out the language to describe beautiful women: stunning, knock out, drop-dead gorgeous, staggering etc. All adjectives that also describe a physical altercation. May seem dramatic, but worth evaluating.
Even though this is hyperbole, I do know that men have a physiological response when they view someone attractive. There is a pause. Blood-rushes, breathing increases, mind goes blank etc. So even for a micro-second, there is a period where one “loses control” of his composure, presence and even anatomy. And this is a brief example. There’s no denying the effect of women can be more extensive. Some men will reorient his time, attention, and life-course all from the impression of a “stunning” woman.
The power of a vital woman is irresistible. And when it adversely affects a man’s presence, anatomy and rationale mind… well control must be exercised over instead of within. The two approaches: repression and exploitation.
It's my belief this effect is what led men to moderate and modulate women’s appearance. This has resulted in quite the spectrum. There are cultures of repressed sexuality. There’s complete coverage of women in the name of possession. There are also practices of women hyper-sexualizing themselves, where trends covertly influence her behavior and appeal.
You see, to be beautiful and influential is only manipulative according to the mainstream narrative. Thankfully it was clarified for me that “to seduce” comes from the French word ‘to attract’ or ‘to charm’. This describes the magnetism women have. The word and women have been vilified, not necessarily on moral grounds but because the feminine charm is that intoxicating. I realize there are women who have acted without integrity. Even though, that’s certainly not what I agree with, it doesn’t give the right for modern systems to regulate women’s beauty based on men’s fear.
Beauty is nature. Beauty is power. And beauty is yours. Beauty is radiance of inner value shining through your personal aesthetic. Beauty is self-possession. The right ones will take ownership of tending to and caring for your vitality. The wrong ones will mistake ownership for something that they believe is theirs to control.
Beauty is the divine biodiversity reminding us to serve one another and our ourselves.
What a holy opportunity.
I love the depth of your article and I enjoyed reading your perspective on beauty. Beauty for sure seems to be one of the building blocks of the human experience. On a personal level, I love the frequency of beauty in any way it presents itself.
